Flora & Fauna Kids Club

from £7.90

A club for kids who love nature!

A 5-week block of Herb Club sessions running to the February break. The dates for this session will be:

  • Thursdays, for P4-P7 aged kids, 3:30-4:45pm (Thursdays 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th January, and 6th February)

  • Fridays, for P1-P7 aged kids, 1:30-2:45pm (Fridays 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st January, and 7th February)

For the January - February break session, we’ll have a focus on the WINTER WILDLIFE GARDEN, and we’ll learn about what the honeybees are up to during these colder months. As always, we’ll focus on a herb a week in a little more detail and I’ve got a lovely binder for each of the kids to personalise and collect all their pages and creative projects in! We will divide the time between the Workshop space - newly opened for this Winter block! - and the herb & wildlife garden.

I’m so excited to start 2025 in this way, more time outside in the garden and looking at the plants and animals we share this growing space with.

It’s a time for preparation and planning, getting ready for the ground warming and the days lengthening when we’ll do more to propagate, tend and harvest the herbs.

You’ll prepare a page recording the plant of the week, created in a way which expresses your own interest in the plant and its properties. Together we’ll make observations and impressions, notes and ideas on its uses. The idea is that over the weeks you can gather a collection of knowledge, guided by the seasons, the plants, and coming together as your very own ‘materia medica’. There will be a something practical to make each week too: a remedy, recipe to taste, or something for nature: a seed, cutting or another way of giving back to nature.

Healthy minds, healthy bodies, healthy environments.

Adults can choose to stay or drop off. The group size is limited to 10 young people per session; please book a place for each sibling, to ensure this ratio is met. Please get in touch with any questions, liz@thehoneybeesanctuary.org

I have been hosting kids' herbalism workshops at The Honeybee Sanctuary for a year now, and come to realise what an inspired, nature-loving, creative community of young people we have here! I just love to watch their knowledge and connection with nature grow - I’m told how much the kids love spending time in the herb garden and apothecary too. I'm delighted to offer this weekly club here at The Honeybee Sanctuary in the heart of North Berwick.
