Flora & Fauna Fridays

A club for kids who love nature!

I have been offering kids' herbalism workshops at The Honeybee Sanctuary for a year now, and come to realise what an inspired, nature-loving, creative community of young people we have here! I'm delighted to offer a weekly club here in the heart of North Berwick, where we'll learn about plants and their uses for health and wellbeing.

Thursdays, for P4-P7, 3:30-4:45pm

Fridays, for P1-P7, 1:30-2:45pm

  • On the cold, wet days we’ll gather around the big table and get creative;

  • On the brighter days we’ll explore the plants in the apothecary garden. As the ground warms and the days lengthen, we’ll do more to propagate, tend and harvest the herbs.

  • Each week we’ll focus on one herb plant in detail and record our observations, ideas, recipes and remedies.

  • We’ll taste, sample, or make something to take home each week.

You’ll take home a page recording the plant of the week, created in a way which expresses your own interest in the plant and its properties. The idea is that over the weeks you can gather a collection of knowledge, guided by the seasons, the plants, and coming together as your very own ‘materia medica’. There will be a something practical to make each week too: a remedy, recipe to taste, or something for nature: a seed, cutting or another way of giving back to nature.

Healthy minds, healthy bodies, healthy environments.

Adults can choose to stay or drop off. Places are limited to 10 young people per session; please book a place for each sibling, to ensure adult-to-child ratios are met. Please get in touch with any questions, liz@thehoneybeesanctuary.org
